Book Review: ‘Fairy Tale’ by Stephen King
Regardless of how you know Stephen King, whether it’s from his novels or the film adaptations, he will always suck you into the world that he creates. Fairy Tale by Stephen King had been nominated for the best Fantasy novel in 2022 by Goodreads. That was a major factor as to why we wanted to read this one for Maude’s Book Club in October!
Convincing You to Read Books by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
If you have Goodreads and follow Maude Garrett, Amanda Tass, or Amanda Guarragi (me), you know Maude chose Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia for Book Chat last year!
This year, I decided to dive into Mexican Gothic, which blew me away and is one of the best books I’ve read this year. And next on the list is Silver Nitrate, which people have been raving about. Silvia Moreno-Garcia crosses genres and gives such depth to her female characters, which is one of the main reasons I enjoyed her writing.

Welcome to Spooktober, everyone!
It is the best month for those who enjoy thrillers, horror, and some dark sci-fi/fantasy novels. The month of October feels like a clean slate and a chance to try something new. Luckily for avid readers like us, plenty of books are being released in the next four months to keep us invested. Everyone knows that Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros will drop on November 7th, but she did give us a little something more. Not only is there the return for a midnight release party for Iron Flame, but Yarros had a secret release that every Fourth Wing fan was fawning over.
If You Like ‘Goosebumps’ by R. L. Stine Add These Adult Books To Your TBR!
Since the 90s, Goosebumps by R. L. Stine introduced pre-teens to the supernatural and fantastical. Thanks to Stine, his stories were the perfect balance of horror and thriller. The story in each book often mirrored a situation the protagonist was going through. Whether it was grief, trauma or loneliness, the character’s pain would parallel the supernatural events.

If you’re a fan of Edgar Allan Poe then you know about The Fall of the House of Usher. It is one of his most well-known short stories. In one of my film lectures at University, we studied The Fall of the House of Usher and watched how the short story was translated into film. Filmmakers had adapted it as early as 1928 and remade it in the 50s. There have been many iterations, but no one has done the story justice like Mike Flanagan.
