The Goodreads Choice Awards 2023 Final Round Nominations
The final round for the Goodreads Choice Awards is now open! Some of the books we have read have made it through the next round and we could not be happier. If you haven’t read the books listed below, then it’s time to add them to your TBR for next year! All the books nominated below have impacted this year; we can’t wait to read some of them as a community.
‘Fourth Wing’ Guide: Dragons and Their Riders
When it comes to world-building in fantasy novels, there can be an overload of information. Character names can be mixed up and even hard to pronounce. In Fourth Wing and now Iron Flame, Rebecca Yarros has made it difficult for readers to keep up with all the dragons bonded to their riders with their signets. Yarros focuses on Violet Sorrengail and her two dragons, Tairn and Andarna, but there are so many characters that end up helping her in Iron Flame.
Hot Off The Shelf: November 21st-28th New Releases
As the year comes to an end, November is the month to get in all those final reads to round out the year. There are still new releases that 2023 has in store for many. This month focuses on mysteries, thrillers and some romance. Luckily for avid readers like us, plenty of books are being released in the next four months to keep us invested. Whether they are debut novels or long-awaited sequels, there is something for everyone.
Check out the books being released in the last two weeks of November.
The Best of 2023 on Audible
Goodreads and Audible have released the best books of 2023 on their designated platforms, and it’s great to see the variety. As someone who is a born-again reader, audiobooks have become enjoyable for me. It is hard to find time to sit down and read a book. Listening to novels while driving, cleaning the house or going for a walk adds a similar layer of calmness when reading a book.
If You Like ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ Add These To Your TBR
It’s hard to believe that after a decade The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes would garner the same excitement as The Hunger Games. It is safe to say that the film adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is incredible and fans of the prequel will be more than satisfied with it.
The Goodreads Choice Awards 2023 Opening Round Nominations
It’s almost the end of the year, and it has been a wonderful year because it has been filled with books. The Goodreads Choice Awards have begun, and their opening round is officially open for voting. They cover each genre, but here at MBC, our focus is fantasy and science fiction. Fortunately, those genres flourished this year because of some incredible new releases.
New Characters in ‘Iron Flame’ by Rebecca Yarros
It has been one week since Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros was released, and some book lovers are already finished reading!
Some new characters are introduced within Part One of the book, which surprised many readers. The addition of these characters has made this sequel more engaging in light of the absence of Xaden Riorson. There are some strange things going on at Basgiath and the more we read, the more these additional characters show their true colours.

From Book to Screen: ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Parallels
The game has grown exponentially since 2014 and has branched out into graphic novels, mini-games, spin-offs and now a film adaptation. Video game adaptations are difficult to make because there is so much lore. And the FNAF lore is extensive, with a weird timeline created by Cawthon. The film adaptation, directed by Emma Tammi, focuses on the children who were taken versus the gameplay and sets it apart from the rest of the media in the franchise. There are plenty of Easter Eggs in the film that were directly from the graphic novels.
