5 Reasons To Pick Up A Brandon Sanderson Book

If you have Goodreads and you follow Maude Garrett, Amanda Tass, or Amanda Guarragi (me), you know that Maude and our book club have read three of Andy Weir’s sci-fi novels.

Maude Garrett has always been a fan of Brandon Sanderson and we have even covered the Mistborn series for Book Club! There’s something so special about Sanderson’s novels. He brings such charm and wit to his characters.

It’s impossible for any reader not to fall in love with their story. He constructs such detailed adventures that help his protagonist become a fully formed person. His characters are fully formed, whether they’re searching for a new perspective or fulfilling their dreams.

Brandon Sanderson was born in December 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Throughout elementary school, he lost interest in the types of titles often suggested to him. He really enjoyed epic fantasy, so much that he even tried his hand at writing some. in 1994 Sanderson enrolled at Brigham Young University as a biochemistry major.

Afterwards, he took time away from his studies to serve as a missionary as well. He did return to school and became an English major instead. He began writing his stories and managed to finish seven novels during his undergraduate years. It was in 2003, while he was in his graduate program, that he got a call from his editor that his first novel Elantris would be published

  1. Wide Variety

Brandon Sanderson has always focused on Science Fiction, Fantasy and Young Adult novels. He has become a prolific author in those genres because of his incredible world-building. It’s hard to build one story, let alone multiple series and Sanderson has done it quite effortlessly. It’s impressive the longevity he has achieved since he began writing. In May 2005, Sanderson published his first book Elantris and he never looked back. It was his first standalone and then he developed his first series with Misborn shortly after.

Without a doubt, Sanderson guides his protagonist on a wonderous journey and takes readers on a ride. Every novel is a large-scale adventure with multiple characters that readers can relate to. The most rewarding aspect of any Sanderson novel is his ability to write such well-rounded characters. By the time you get to the end of the series, you have learned so much and feel fulfilled with your journey every time. Of course, you may have favourite characters but it’s impossible not to appreciate his writing for all of them. All their motivations and the obstacles they face help make Sanderson’s characters feel grounded and real.
