Every new year, we have to start compiling a list of new books we HAVE to read.
In 2026, there are so many sequels to our favourite books, and we can’t wait to dive in. From highly acclaimed Romantasy novels to our favourite science fiction series, The Murderbot Diaries, we get to see what our favourite characters are up to.
Some BIG books are coming out in the new year that are must-reads for our sci-fi/fantasy book club. And some Maude Garrett has already added to her TBR.

The 2025 Goodreads Choice Awards Winners
The Goodreads Choice Awards Winners have been announced, and we couldn’t be happier for the winners. Even though MBC covers Science Fiction and Fantasy, we love to see books in other genres win!
Some of the books we have read have won. Some books we have chosen for next year won too! If you haven’t read the books listed below, then it’s time to add them to your TBR for next year! All the books nominated have made an impact this year! We can’t wait to read some of them as a community.
If You Like ‘The Running Man’ Add These Books To Your TBR
2025 has been Stephen King’s year!
Adaptations of If It Bleeds, The Long Walk, IT, and The Running Man have all been well-received by audiences.
The Running Man was adapted in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the title role of Ben Richards. Stephen King wrote this novel and The Long Walk under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
After reading The Running Man, it goes without saying that Edgar Wright’s visionary filmmaking is the best fit to capture the fast-paced energy of the novel.

The 10 Most Anticipated Book Adaptations Of Fall 2025
2025 has been filled with incredible new book releases. For some reason, most of the book adaptations are released in the last quarter of the year. There are film adaptations that everyone is excited about. Some may not be aware that these books are being adapted, so MBC is here to help you all.
The books listed below are also among my most anticipated for the second half of the year. Hopefully, we can read them before they head to the big screen. From romance to horror to sci-fi, here are the 10 most anticipated book adaptations for the rest of 2025.
SDCC Highlight: Maude Garrett’s Audible Panel with Andy Weir
For Maude, it was a dream come true to be at SDCC talking about her love of books, but more importantly, her love for sci-fi and one of her favourite authors, including Matt Dinniman.
The hype from SDCC and Maude’s interview with Andy Weir has garnered new fans of the source material and will likely be a hit for Amazon, MGM Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

5 Standalone Sci-fi/Fantasy Novels To Get You Out Of Your Reading Slump
Every so often people fall into a reading slump, myself included. You may have a stacked TBR and three books on the go, but sometimes the books aren’t clicking. We’ve all had the same experience and discussed it in our discord, but we all have different ways to get out of the slump!
Sometimes it helps to read a book totally out of your comfort genre. Other times it’s best to avoid a full series and read standalone novels. What we often do at MBC to reinvigorate our love of reading is pick a book with a lighter page count or something not as dense as other Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels with more world-building.
Here are the five books we recommend to those struggling to get through some pages!
