What do you hope readers will take away from reading this book? A novel can ask questions, and there are many questions I want to raise with ARTIFICIAL TRUTH, including: • What will happen when AI infiltrates our lives? People worry that AI will dominate the world and destroy humanity, but what if, instead, AI technology secretly infiltrates and controls individuals’ lives? Can we escape the control of AI and an ever-expanding web of networks?
• How will free-will be defined in the AI era? Are the choices and decisions we make purely chosen by free will? Aren’t our lives, exposed to countless algorithms and customized advertisements, already dependent on AI?
• How will AI change the concept of life and death? How will humanity change if the notion that “all humans die” is changed by AI? If there is a world where life continues after death through AI, what choices will humans make? Will they choose complete death or to live as data in a virtual space?
• How to accept AI? AI, virtual reality, and other technologies are progressing rapidly, and yet humanity is becoming more and more alienated from itself. Now that everyone experiences the world of AI in one way or another, it is time to look back on the role of humanity and fight back against the machines. The weapons the protagonists in ARTIFICIAL TRUTH use to fight against AI are “human flaws called compassion, forgiveness, and sacrifice” that machines cannot understand.

An escape from reality that changed the landscape of artificial intelligence, it is home to more than one hundred million people. Though it’s been six years since Alegria’s creator—revolutionary tech genius KC Kim—died of cancer, his legacy is alive in the pinnacle of KC’s an AI named Allen who surges with KC’s memories.
As hard as KC’s widow, Minju, and her new husband, Junmo, try to move on, Minju can’t shake the unnerving feeling that somehow, from somewhere, KC is watching. She sees a stranger who bears an uncanny resemblance to him. A pair of KC’s custom-made shoes arrive at her doorstep. And someone has booked a Tokyo hotel room where she and KC shared happier times. Certain of nothing except KC’s mad innovation, Minju can only imagine what he is accomplishing without even existing.
If KC is reaching out from an infinity of memories, what are his plans for Minju and Junmo, and how can they hope to escape KC’s all-seeing grasp? And whose plans are they, really? The possibilities are frightening.
J.M. spent his formative years searching for talking animals and believing he could control the weather. After pursuing nerdy interests in comparative film studies, screenwriting, and Shakespeare, he graduated with a much nerdier degree in linguistics.
