Maude’s Book Club Questions For ‘The Poppy War’ by R.F. Kuang
We love having discussions at MBC! We tackled The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang in March! For those who love historical fiction and extensive lore that ties in with actual events, Kuang’s war fantasy novel is unlike anything you’ll ever read.
We thought it would be nice to share the questions we have prepared for our book club with all of you. That way, if you enjoy the thought-provoking questions that come with reading a book and going into detail, you’ll join us for next month’s pick!

Maude’s Book Club Questions For ‘Divine Rivals’ by Rebecca Ross
We love having discussions at MBC! Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross stole our hearts in February. For those who love to write and those who enjoy reading historical fiction, this fantasy romance is the perfect mixture for all readers.
Maude’s Book Club became engaged with the story between Iris and Kitt because of the development of their relationship. It is enemies-to-lovers and its beautifully written passages explore one’s true self through anonymity and vulnerability.

If You Like ‘Artemis’ by Andy Weir Add These To Your TBR
This is the third novel by Weir that we’ve read for book club. We love his humour and the way he explores space in an approachable way for readers.
We have more recommendations if you’ve always been fascinated with space and the themes of loneliness, survival and artificial intelligence. Some of the books listed below cross genres and incorporate horror and fantasy.

If You Like ‘Ripley’ Add These To Your TBR
The new limited series Ripley, on Netflix, is adapted by Steve Zaillian and is being considered the best adaptation of her crime series The Talented Mr. Ripley. Whether you read her book series or enjoyed the 1999 film, the world Highsmith created is incredible. The characters are complex and well-rounded to the point where you feel like you truly know them.

Maude’s Book Club QNA with Andy Weir
The MBC community has chosen Artemis as the bonus book for April.
We are very fortunate that Andy Weir will join us for a QnA this month! If you’re a fan of his novels, come and discuss his sci-fi novels with us.

Convincing You to Read Books by Andy Weir
From The Martian to Project Hail Mary, Maude and the MBC community have loved his humour and how he depicts space. Within the sci-fi genre, the themes of loneliness and survival are very prominent. Weir explores how his lead characters navigate these obstacles in the wide unknown.

The Most Breathtaking Libraries of the World
It's National Library Day! Today, we celebrate the most magical place on Earth for book readers. For many of us, it all started with choosing one book from the shelf and sitting in a corner of the library absorbing every word on the page.

Interview: The Book of Japanese Folklore by Thersa Matsuura
At MBC we love finding women authors who have applied themselves to many different avenues. We had the pleasure of interviewing Thersa Matsuura, who recently released The Book of Japanese Folklore: An Encyclopedia of the Spirits, Monsters, and Yōkai of Japanese Myth.

The 10 Best Sci-Fi Novels Based in Space
This month our bonus book is Artemis by Andy Weir!
We’ve enjoyed reading his other books, The Martian and Project Hail Mary for book club in previous years. Weir is cheeky with his writing and perfectly captures isolation in outer space. We don’t realize the emptiness one can feel out there in endless darkness, and Weir is one author who transports you to that place.

Maude’s Book Club - The Podcast Episode 4 with Pierce Brown
For episode four of Maude’s Book Club - The Podcast, Maude Garrett interviews Pierce Brown.
Pierce Brown is a multi-international best-selling author of the space fantasy epic series Red Rising, but how did the book idea come about? Let’s just say Pierce Brown thinks about the Roman Empire A LOT more than the average person. He also discusses how he was rejected over 100 times before getting published and his favourite books that shaped him as an author!

Hey, Howlers!
Maude Garrett has been raving about Red Rising, and our book club members have loved the second book, Golden Son. Morning Star and Iron Gold have gotten some mixed feelings from our community. This April, we head back into the universe created by Pierce Brown with Dark Age, the fifth book in the series. It was a nominee for Best Science Fiction in 2019.
